Our approach

Baker & McKenzie recognises the importance of honest and responsible use of your personal information. This Policy provides you with important information about how we intend to collect, use, disclose, and otherwise process individually identifiable information about you as a potential candidate.

What information do we collect?

We will collect various types of information from you by your completion and submission of our on-line application form which is organised by cvMailUK. The information we collect, and which is collected on our behalf, includes your name, contact details, academic history, qualifications, interests and other personal details. We may also collect sensitive personal information, that includes information about health or medical conditions, disabilities, ethnic origin and criminal convictions which we are required to do so for legal and monitoring purposes. You can be assured that this information will be kept confidential and will only be accessible to our recruitment staff or other authorised personnel involved in the recruitment process.

Our application form requests your provision of information which may include personal information relating to other individuals, for instance the provision of references or previous employers. Please be sure to obtain the consent of the individuals concerned before submitting any of their personal details to us.

How do we use the information?

We use the information to carry out our recruitment process. We may also from time to time use the details you provide to send you information (by post or email) about the Firm, our recruitment process and about opportunities that we think will be of interest to you. You will receive such information only from us and only if you have indicated on the application form that you wish to receive it. If at any time you decide that you no longer want to receive such information from us, please inform us by sending us a written request at the postal or email address specified at the end of this Privacy Policy.

Where does the information go?

As Baker & McKenzie is a global law firm, in the course of carrying out our recruitment process we may from time to time need to transfer your data to other offices within the Firm. Some of these offices will be located in the European Economic Area (EEA) while others may be located in other countries, including the USA, which may have less stringent laws regulating the protection of personal data. You can be assured that we have the necessary procedures in place to protect your personal information while it is in our possession.

We will not sell or rent your data to anyone. However, in some circumstances we may need to transfer your information to third parties who are providing services to us. Exceptionally, we may also be compelled to make unanticipated use or disclosure of your information in special cases where we believe that our doing so is necessary to identify, contact or take legal action against someone whom we consider is infringing or interfering with our rights or property, or those of our clients or staff.

How long do we keep your information?

We will retain your information only for the period necessary to complete the recruitment process or for any longer period as required by law or as may be necessary in connection with any ongoing relationship we may have.

Checking that the information is accurate

Baker & McKenzie wishes to maintain personal information that is accurate, current, and complete. If personal information that you previously provided is no longer accurate, current, or complete, please contact us. You have the right to access personal information that we may maintain about you, and you may request such access by sending us a written request at the postal address specified at the end of this Privacy Policy along with a statutory fee of £10. We will provide you with such information, and amend or update the information we hold about you if it is incorrect. We also reserve the right to take reasonable steps to authenticate your identity before providing such access.

Security of your information

Baker & McKenzie maintains reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information from loss, misuse and unauthorised access, disclosure, alteration and destruction. To the extent that we disclose personal information to third party subcontractors e.g. cvMailUK, we require that such third parties also maintain reasonable security measures and use the personal information in accordance with our instructions for the purpose of providing us with services.

Updates

We will use and transfer you personal information only as set out in this Policy. From time to time we may change or update this Policy. Any such change or update will be notified to you if, at that time, we propose to continue using your data under any modified terms.
